Pain Management
Sports recovery is an essential part of any athlete’s training regimen. After an intense workout, competition, or injury, your body needs time to heal and recover before you can get back to training or competing at your full potential. At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, we understand the importance of sports recovery, and we offer a range of services and treatments to help athletes of all levels recover and get back to the top of their game.
Our sports recovery program is designed to help athletes improve their performance, prevent injuries, and recover from sports-related injuries. We offer a variety of treatments, including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and specialized sports training. Our team of experienced therapists and athletic trainers will work with you to create a customized treatment plan that meets your specific needs and goals.
Sports recovery is important for several reasons. First, it helps prevent injuries. When you exercise, your muscles are put under stress, which can cause tiny tears in the muscle fibers. These tears are necessary for muscle growth and strengthening, but they also need time to heal. If you don’t give your body enough time to recover, you can develop overuse injuries, such as tendinitis or stress fractures.
Second, recovery helps reduce soreness. After a workout or competition, you may experience muscle soreness, which can be uncomfortable and affect your performance. Recovery strategies, such as stretching and massage, can help reduce soreness and improve your ability to move.
Third, recovery can improve performance. When you give your body time to recover, you allow it to repair and strengthen itself, which can improve your overall performance. Recovery can also help prevent burnout, which can occur when you push yourself too hard and don’t allow enough time for rest and recovery.

Both our pain management doctors are board-certified specialists with advanced training in treating chronic pain conditions.
Our pain management specialists treat a wide range of conditions including chronic back and neck pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, sports injuries, work-related injuries, and auto accident injuries. We provide comprehensive care for both acute and chronic pain conditions.
During your initial consultation, our pain management specialist will review your medical history, conduct a physical examination, and discuss your pain symptoms. We’ll work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that may include conservative treatments, interventional procedures, or a combination of approaches.
Most insurance plans cover pain management treatments, but coverage can vary. We recommend contacting our office to verify your specific coverage and ensure your insurance plan covers our providers and the treatments we offer.
Non-surgical options include physical therapy, medication management, trigger point injections, nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, PRP therapy, chiropractic care, and acupuncture. Our multidisciplinary approach allows us to offer comprehensive non-surgical treatments.
Treatment timelines vary depending on the condition and treatment approach. Some patients experience relief within days of treatment, while others may need several weeks or months to see significant improvement. We’ll discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Interventional pain management involves minimally invasive procedures such as injections, nerve blocks, and radiofrequency ablation to target specific sources of pain. These procedures can provide significant pain relief when conservative treatments haven’t been effective.
You should consider seeing a pain management specialist if you have chronic pain lasting more than 3 months, pain that interferes with daily activities, or if conservative treatments haven’t provided adequate relief. We also treat acute pain from work injuries and auto accidents.
Risks and side effects vary by treatment type. Our specialists will discuss potential risks and benefits of each treatment option during your consultation. We prioritize safe, evidence-based treatments with minimal side effects.

Patient Testimonials
I had my first visit yesterday at this facility. From the moment I entered the girls at the desk greeted me and were so friendly. Then I consulted with Dr Jeff who took the time for me to explain my condition. After that I worked with Marianne who evaluated me . After I finished Dr Jeff read my MRI & my condition was explained to me in further detail. I ended my session with Dr Jeff. I feel confident that I am in the best hands with these outstanding, knowledgeable, caring professionals. Thank you to all of you! Five stars are not enough!

I just wrapped up 24 sessions with the team at NJ Sports Spine & Wellness - Matawan for lower back and TMJ pain. The whole team there is dedicated on getting you back to feeling your old self. My therapy included decompression, physical therapy, and Chiropractic work. Dr. Jordan - who worked on my TMJ - was very friendly and informative. Dr. Mayra - my chiropractor - was very caring, helpful and efficient. Everyone there took the time to address my needs and answer any questions I had. Also, the facility is very modern, clean and has the latest technologies. I am feeling much better after my time with the team. Would definitely recommend NJ Sports Spine & Wellness!

I went into NJ Sports, Spine, and Wellness in excruciating pain, desperate for relief. The front desk crew are amazing, efficient, and empathetic. They got me in urgently and I started treatment with Dr. Tony Abregio. He spent considerable time with me assessing my condition. He advised me to follow up with an orthopedic doctor, and he ordered imaging. When my insurance company denied the CT he went to bat for me, and went above and beyond to get the test approved. Dr. Abregio is highly skilled in hands on modalities. He incorporates massage, stretching, and adjustments to bring relief. He listens and after clinically evaluating, he formulates a treatment plan. The crew on the floor are wonderful, Mariah, Claudette, Julien, and everyone on the team work with you and give you encouragement along with therapy. When you hurt and can’t get a break from the pain, you find respite here. Ultimately I am feeling much better. If you have chronic pain or you get injured, NJ Sports and Spine will get you better. Thank you to the whole team!

Alyssa is the professional I have been seeing and she has been a great help for my progress through my rotator cuff surgery. NJ Sports are very professional and I reccomend them for anyone who is recovering from procedures like mine. The pain has been tough but Alyssa is there every step of the way. See Alyssa, she is the best!

I have been going to physical and occupational therapy, as well as chiropractic services at the Matawan location of NJ spine and Wellness for the last three years and I am beyond satisfied and so very thankful for their services offered. I am currently seeing Matthew Mondoro for chiropractic services and Alyssa Bark for occupational therapy and they are both life savers.
The techs that assist with my workout routine on the fitness floor go above and beyond to make sure I know how to do each exercise with proper form. I recently started their acupuncture services which are located right across the street and I am also very pleased with Yunshen Wang. I am so very appreciative to this facility, and last but not least, thank you to the reception and scheduling staff members for fitting me in and making last minute chsnges whenever necessary.

My experience so far with the rehab team has been incredible. OT Alyssa is the primary therapist I have seen and she is phenomenal at what she does. I appreciate her intentionality with my treatment when we meet 1-on-1. She makes sure to ask how I’m doing and checks in with my progress. I highly recommend Alyssa; she is the perfect balance of personable/caring and knowledgeable. The exercises provided to me are challenging but are effective to my healing process. Techs David, Zaire and Liam are the best! They are attentive when helping me with the exercises assigned to me and go above and beyond to make sure my experience (and that of other patients around me) is as enjoyable as possible in spite of the physical challenges.

I’ve had an amazing experience at NJ Sports Spine & Wellness! I spent a lot of time researching the perfect place for PT after knee surgery, and I'm glad I came here. The staff is friendly and supportive. Katelynn is a fantastic OT who doesn't rush her patients and has worked wonders on my knee since surgery. Liam is incredibly knowledgeable about ACL surgery recovery and tailors the sessions to my needs. Everyone here pushes me to improve and always makes sure I’m comfortable every step of the way. Everyone is awesome, but I'm glad I get to work with Tori, Alyssa, Agnes, Kat, and Tavis often. I highly recommend NJSS&W for anyone looking for personalized, thoughtful care!
