Eastern DataComm: Eastern DataComm (Hackensack), which offers communication solutions for businesses, schools and municipalities in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent for an element of Eastern DataComm’s proprietary Lockdown and Emergency Notification System (LENS).

LENS incorporates this patented technology to more effectively allow schools, libraries, municipalities or businesses to immediately and automatically notify everyone inside and outside a building of an emergency.

Components of the comprehensive and uniquely designed notification solution include flashing strobes/lights, LED sign boards, paging system announcements, phone system and PC alerts, calls to 911 and key administrators, as well as wireless strobes/lights and speakers.

Eastern DataComm’s proprietary controller connects these components, which can be activated during an emergency by dialing a code on any phone within the building, pushing a “mushroom-style” lockdown plunger button in key locations, or by using an administrator’s smart phone app.

SHI: SHI International Corp., a private, woman-owned New Jersey tech company based in Somerset, and one of North America’s top 15 largest IT solutions providers, ended 2016 with $7.56 billion in revenue, a 12 percent year-over-year increase.

Domestically, all SHI sales divisions experienced significant growth, led by a 16 percent gain for the Corporate and SMB division, 13 percent for Public Sector, and 8 percent in the Commercial and Strategic Enterprise space. (NASDAQ: WSTG) (“Wayside” or the “Company”), a value-added global IT channel company providing innovative sales and distribution solutions for emerging technology vendors, has completed the acquisition of Spinnakar Limited (“Spinnakar”), a UK-based IT channel distributor, for an aggregate purchase price of $11.8 million (£9.8 million) payable at closing (subject to working capital and other adjustments), plus a potential post-closing earn-out. The Company funded the acquisition of Spinnakar utilizing cash from the Company’s balance sheet.

Spinnakar is a UK-based, IT channel distributor focused on storage, cloud, security and data management businesses across Europe, the Middle East and South Africa (“EMEA”). Spinnakar brings scale and channel expertise to Wayside with more than 15 vendor partners, including Cloudian, Deep Instinct, Rubrik, Virtuozzo and most notably, Vast Data, a universal data platform providing simple, affordable and fast scaling data and storage capabilities. For the trailing twelve months ended July 31, 2022, Spinnakar reported pre-tax income of $2.0 million¹ (£1.5 million²).

Synchronoss Technologies: Synchronoss (Bridgewater) reported strong Q2 2015 results that met or exceeded the high end of its expectations, Stephen Waldis, founder, chairman and CEO, said in a release on Wednesday, July 29.

“Each of our businesses performed well in the quarter and we were pleased to see some of our new wins began to scale and drive volumes, particularly on the cloud side. We are gaining strong traction among international mobile operators who are increasingly realizing the significant value Synchronoss’ white-label cloud solution can deliver to their subscribers.”

On the basis of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) basis, Synchronoss reported net revenues of $137.8 million, representing an increase of 33 percent compared with Q2 2014. Gross profit was $82.9 million and income from operations was $23.6 million in Q2 2015. Net income was $15.2 million, resulting in diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.33, compared with $0.20 for Q2 2014.

On a non-GAAP basis, Synchronoss also reported net revenues of $137.9 million, again a growth of 33 percent compared with Q2 2014. From a profitability perspective, the company generated a 29 percent non-GAAP operating margin and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.56, Waldis said in a conference call transcribed by Seeking Alpha.

He added that this “was well above the high-end of our guidance range as we realize leverage from our business model. The combination of R&D investments, the strong growth in our cloud revenues, which have a higher margin profile, and the evolution of our cloud business to a lower CapEx intensive model are beginning to contribute to increased margin expansion and profitability. And based on our second quarter results and the ongoing momentum of our business, including the continued strength in both our cloud and activation offerings, we are increasing our revenue and materially increasing our profitability outlook for fiscal 2015.”

Synchronoss has recently been mentioned as a possible buyout candidate. According to an article by O’Neill Trader on Seeking Alpha, however, “Management [said during its] Q2 call that they ‘don’t speculate on false rumors.’ The ‘false’ part of the statement is telling and I see no real reason to consider such an option at the moment.”

Cognizant: Teaneck-based Cognizant’s Q2 2015 sequential revenue increase in dollar terms “was the strongest in our history,” said CEO Francisco D’Souza in a release.

“These results validate that our business strategy and our investments position us well to capture the emerging opportunities as clients look to transform into digital businesses. We increasingly work with our clients to help them re-imagine their businesses and build new capabilities to succeed in the digital era.”

Some highlights from the Cognizant announcement:

The revenues of $3.09 billion in Q2 2015 represented a rise from $2.52 billion in Q2 2014. GAAP net income was $420.1 million in Q2 2015 (or $0.68 per diluted share), compared with $371.9 million (or $0.61 per diluted share) in Q2 2014.

The GAAP operating margin for Q2 2015 was 17.7 percent. The non-GAAP operating margin was 20.2 percent, slightly higher than the company’s target range of 19-20 percent.

Cognizant increased its guidance for Q3 2015 and for fiscal 2015 overall.

Wayside Technology: Wayside Technology Group (Shrewsbury) reported very good Q2 2015 earnings results, according to information released on July 30. “I am pleased to report solid financial results for Q2 2015. Overall, revenue increased 9 percent and Gross Profit increased 5 percent over the same period last year, due to continued strong performance from our Lifeboat Distribution team,” Simon F. Nynens, chairman, president and CEO, said in a release. The company opened a Lifeboat Distribution sales office in Mesa, Arizona, to enhance customer service for their Midwest and West Coast customers.

Net sales for Q2 2015 ended June 30, 2015, increased 9 percent, or by $7.6 million to $92.0 million, compared with $84.4 million for the same period in 2014. Total sales for Q2 2015 for the Lifeboat Distribution segment were $81.3 million, compared with $70.0 million in Q2 2014, representing an increase of $11.3 million, or 16 percent.

Wayside’s TechXtend business has declined, however. Total sales for Q2 2015 for the TechXtend segment were $10.7 million, compared with $14.4 million in Q2 2014, representing a decrease of $3.7 million, or 26 percent.

On July 29, 2015, the Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $.17 per share of its common stock, payable August 17, 2015, to shareholders of record on August 10, 2015.

The Garden State Parkway Exit 105 reconfiguration project will begin by the "end of summer," according to New Jersey Turnpike Authority Spokesman Thomas Feeney.

The project will also feature one change in response to local concerns. A left-turn lane and traffic signal will be added at the intersection of Wayside Road and Pinebrook Road. This is being done to help ease traffic concerns from the increased amount of people expected to use Wayside Road.

The $40 million project will completed in two contracts.

The first contract will include the reconstruction of Exit 105 at the intersection of Hope Road and Route 36.

The main improvement at the Hope Road intersection will include a new ramp from the parkway north exit that would run between a neighboring hotel and the park and ride, and empty out onto Hope Road. Hope Road also will be widened north and south of Route 36, with new traffic signals installed.

This will let drivers headed toward Hope Road avoid the Route 36 bottleneck that exists now from cars exiting the parkway and turning right onto Hope Road or taking the jughandle to go on Hope Road north.

Cars headed to Hope Road north will also take this new ramp south of Route 36 and then make a left onto Hope Road at the new light and proceed to cross over Route 36, without having to bother with the jughandle.

From this same area south of Route 36, there will also be a new lane that would take drivers headed toward the Monmouth Mall from Hope Road in Tinton Falls, through the woods and onto Route 36 east, completely avoiding the now-congested intersection of Hope Road and Route 36.

The existing ramps from the parkway south will also be widened and the jughandle will remain.

The second contract will include the construction of a new southbound connection to Wayside Road and the construction of a second northbound deceleration lane.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority officials have said this willbe done improve access to Route 18 and will help ease congestion at the Hope Road/Route 36 intersection.

When the new ramp reaches Wayside Road, a traffic light will be placed at the intersection and motorists will be able to make a left or right turn.

Officials have said the contracts' start times will be staggered with the Hope Road/Route 36 improvements beginning first with a construction duration of about one year. The Wayside Road connection and deceleration lane will be started second and construction will likely last for about two years.

They have said the roads will likely be widened to accommodate the increased summer traffic and that construction should take place after "peak hours."
