What is Chiropractic Care?

head-btm

Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-invasive approach to overall wellness and healing that focuses on correcting issues with your musculoskeletal system. When performed by a licensed chiropractor, it can alleviate and even eliminate common problems such as:

  • Back Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Knee Pain
  • Automobile Injuries
  • Sports Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Body Aches

To treat your conditions and help reduce your pain, chiropractors use time-tested, hands-on techniques to adjust your spine, neck, back, and other joints throughout your body to restore proper function, mobility, and alignment. Once your body is in proper alignment, it functions optimally, leading to improved overall wellness and health.

Unlike some sports rehab clinics in The Garden State, chiropractors from NJ Sports Spine & Wellness work with you one-on-one to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific goals and needs relating to your pain and ability to live a normal life. Because our team takes a holistic approach to healthcare, we cover all aspects of your health and wellness when developing your chiropractic treatment plan. Some of the many benefits of seeing a reliable, licensed chiropractor include the following:

 Lower Back Pain Metuchen, NJ

Relief from Back Pain

Perhaps the most obvious reason to make an appointment with a chiropractor is for back pain relief. Some people only need to see a chiropractor when they have occasional back pain, such as when they wake up in the morning. Others, such as those who have been in serious car accidents, need regular chiropractic adjustments and therapies, which are often supplemented with techniques like physical therapy and acupuncture.

There are many causes of back pain that range from advanced conditions like having sciatica and herniated discs to everyday issues like poor posture and sleeping in a harmful position. Your chiropractor's job is to pinpoint the cause(s) of your back pain and build a customized plan to address your musculoskeletal conditions. Once that happens, pain relief follows shortly after.

At New Jersey Sports Spine & Wellness, we craft personalized chiropractic plans for every patient we treat, with the goal of avoiding harmful surgeries and addictive medicines.

Common Chiropractic Techniques

Your NJ Sports Spine & Wellness chiropractor in Metuchen may use a range of techniques to restore function and alignment in your body. Some of the most common techniques our chiropractors use include:

  • Mobilization: This chiropractic strategy uses gentle movements to help restore joint functionality and proper spinal alignment.
  • Manipulation: Spinal manipulation uses controlled force and gravity to correct spinal issues and restore healthy alignment.
  • Electrical Stimulation: With this therapy, electrical currents are used to stimulate your muscles and help heal injuries faster.
  • Soft Tissue Therapy: This type of massage and other hands-on techniques relieve muscle tension while providing pain relief and promoting soft tissue health.
  • Trigger Point Therapy: With this therapy, the targeted use of pressure is used to release tension and improve functionality across specific areas of your body.
  • Ultrasounds: High-frequency sound waves can break up plaque and help stimulate your body's natural healing processes for injuries and wounds.

Reclaim Your Active Life with Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Care

head-btm

Life has a habit of being unexpected. Sure, some surprises only hurt your bank account, like last-minute renovations in your home. But severe incidents, like car accidents, can inflict physical injuries that cause you long-term pain. These problems, like neck and back injuries, affect many Americans daily. Even worse, many hardworking people turn to risky surgeries and addictive pain medications, only to find themselves deep in a hole that seems impossible to get out of.

If you suffer from serious range-of-motion issues or you're in chronic pain, it's important to know that you have treatment choices. You don't have to put your health at risk to relieve your pain. One of the most successful non-invasive treatments offered for pain is physical therapy. The main goal of physical therapy is to restore movement and function to patients affected by illness, injury, or disability.

Physical therapists work with patients of all ages and abilities, from children to elderly adults, to help them overcome physical limitations and improve their quality of life. At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, our physical therapists help treat a wide range of conditions, from neck pain and spinal cord injuries to back pain and arthritis.

Once our PTs have made headway, they will often use our chiropractic therapy to provide the patient with more relief. Having the option of both chiropractic and physical therapy is often very effective, because your chiropractor in Metuchen can address nerve irritation and joint dysfunction while your physical therapist helps retrain your musculoskeletal system, allowing your body to heal faster.

Some of the biggest benefits of using physical therapy along with chiropractic care include:

  • Restoring Mobility After Injury, Surgery, or Illness
  • Developing Flexibility and Strength for Physical Activities
  • Safe Relief from Chronic Pain
  • Improved Spine and Joint Health
  • Enhanced Knowledge of Your Body and How to Prevent Injuries

Engage in Activities of Daily Living with Occupational Therapy and Chiropractic Therapy

head-btm

Occupational therapy, or OT, is to help patients of all ages and abilities engage in activities of daily living, or ADL. Often, that means helping patients reclaim the ability to continue working, going to school, accomplishing day-to-day tasks, or other activities common to daily living.

Occupational therapy can benefit individuals going through many conditions, such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, and chronic pain. The end goal of occupational therapy is to help patients achieve the maximum level of independence and participation in their daily lives. If pain, discomfort, weakness, fatigue, or fear prevent you from participating in activities you love, an OT from NJ Sports Spine & Wellness could become the MVP of your wellness journey.

To give our patients the most complete pain relief and recovery options, our doctors and practitioners will often lean on the expertise of both a physical therapist and a chiropractor in Metuchen. By working together, your PT, OT, and chiropractor can provide you with a comprehensive approach to total-body functionality, from your spine and joints to your mind and range of motion.

Some of the most common benefits of using OT with chiropractic care include:

  • Chronic Pain Relief
  • Improvement of Both Physical and Mental, Emotional, or Developmental Disabilities
  • Improved Development of Fine Motor Skills
  • Better Spine and Musculoskeletal Health
  • Help with Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Much More

Boost Self-Healing Processes with Acupuncture and Chiropractic Care

head-btm

Acupuncture boosts your body's functions and helps improve its ability to heal through anatomic site stimulation - usually called acupuncture points or acupoints. To stimulate these points, acupuncturists at NJ Sports Spine & Wellness insert fine, sterile needles into your skin. Most patients don't feel any pain as needles are applied. Typically, needles are left in the skin up to 30 minutes. After your session, it's normal to feel incredibly relaxed.

While some practitioners still adhere to traditional philosophies, modern acupuncturists take an integrative approach to the therapy. Today, professional acupuncturists use these techniques to stimulate your body's natural healing and pain-fighting processes. When coupled with personalized care from a chiropractor in Metuchen as well as physical or occupational therapy, you can find real relief from the physical and emotional roadblocks holding you back. Some of the most reported benefits of acupuncture treatment include:

  • Back, Neck, and General Pain Relief
  • Improved Digestion and Relief from IBS and Acid Reflux
  • Relief from Menstrual Cramps
  • Treatment for Allergies and Asthma
  • Enhanced Blood Flow
  • Much More

During an acupuncture session, you may feel a slight sensation of warmth or tingling at the needle's site of insertion. Generally speaking, acupuncture is painless and perfectly safe for you to consider. In fact, many practitioners and doctors recommend combining acupuncture with other treatment options like chiropractic adjustments.

Though acupuncture and chiropractic therapies come from different origins, both include non-invasive, holistic, and gentle approaches that don't require drugs to work. They also both facilitate total-body healing by addressing the underlying causes of your symptoms - not just the symptoms themselves.

Because acupuncture is known to release endorphins and improve blood flow, having a session prior to a chiropractic adjustment can be very beneficial. That's because, after acupuncture, your muscles are less stiff, more relaxed, and easier to adjust effectively. Over time, as you combine acupuncture and chiropractic therapy, you'll benefit from less inflammation and less pain as you heal from injuries or musculoskeletal conditions. That same truth applies to patients who undergo serious chiropractic adjustments.

METUCHEN, NJ — YESTERcades an upscale retro arcade with 100 arcade/pinball machines, gaming stations, billiards and more, is coming to downtown Metuchen.

The arcade will be located at the former Manasquan Bank site, adjacent to the public park that was donated by the bank. It is expected to open in early 2024.

This is the brand’s fourth location with arcades in Somerville, Red Bank, and Westfield.

Metuchen Downtown Alliance Executive Director, Dawn Mackey, assessed the mix of businesses and immediately knew an experiential venue was missing to support the excellent restaurant scene and unique retail that already existed in the borough.

“ It’s not enough to be a town of great places to eat, you need places for residents and visitors to enjoy interactive activity.”

Mackey collaborated with the Borough to remove dated restrictions that were a barrier to welcoming new businesses.

Jason Delia, Council President and Liaison to the MDA, was instrumental in facilitating these changes.

“Our Main Street is filled with the type of independently-owned businesses you would expect to find in any thriving downtown. The local pub, an ice cream shop, and pizzerias, to name a few. But Metuchen also has businesses that really set us apart. A tattoo parlor, unique gift stores, upscale dining, and now a public park and arcade in the heart of downtown,” Delia said.

“When Dawn approached the Borough with her desire to add experiential businesses to the mix, our first step was ensuring that our ordinances were refreshed and reflective of the town we have become and strive to be – a local destination in the heart of Central Jersey. The collaboration and partnership on this project is a testament to what makes our Borough so special.”

Lifelong Metuchen resident Rory Josell is the developer of the property. “ It is so gratifying to contribute to my own community through my professional work on this building. My family, along with partners the Rosamilias, share a profound commitment to enhancing our Downtown through acquiring, improving, and managing properties throughout the Town. We are thrilled to have worked with the Mayor and Council, the Borough, and the MDA to bring this collaboration to fruition,” Josell said.

Mayor Jonathan M. Busch said that as someone who spent a lot of time in arcades growing up, welcoming YESTERcades to the borough seems right out of a childhood dream.

“As Mayor, your hope is to cultivate a thriving Downtown where residents want to spend their time and people from outside the Borough want to visit,” Busch said.

“Yestercades is that special business that will help achieve that goal.”

On Tuesday, Metuchen officials and YESTERcades announced that the retro arcade’s fourth Garden State location would be located in downtown Metuchen.

YESTERcades, which features more than 100 arcade and pinball machines, gaming stations, billiards and more, will take over the former Manasquan Bank location in the heart of the Brainy Borough – adjacent to the public park that was donated by the financial institution that opened up a brand-new location nearby on Main Street. The retro arcade currently has locations in Somerville, Red Bank and Westfield.

“We are excited to expand our family-friendly, community-driven business to a town like Metuchen that shares our core values and beliefs,” said YESTERcades “Chief Fun Officer’ Fred Logue. “We cannot wait to bring our unique brand of entertainment to everyone in early 2024.”

The announcement marks continued momentum for Metuchen and its Main Street/downtown area, which, as NJBIZ extensively reported on, was named a Great American Main Street Award winner this past spring.

The effort to bring YESTERcades to Metuchen was spearheaded by Metuchen Downtown Alliance (MDA) Executive Director Dawn Mackey, who felt an experiential venue was needed to supplement the town’s already robust restaurant and retail mix.

“It’s not enough to be a town of great places to eat, you need places for residents and visitors to enjoy interactive activity,” Mackey explained.

She collaborated with township officials to help facilitate changes to dated restrictions that were a barrier to such potential business endeavors.

“Our Main Street is filled with the type of independently owned businesses you would expect to find in any thriving downtown. The local pub, an ice cream shop, and pizzerias, to name a few,” said Jason Delia, council president and liaison to the MDA, who was instrumental in this effort. “A tattoo parlor, unique gift stores, upscale dining, and now a public park and arcade in the heart of the downtown. When Dawn approached the Borough with her desire to add experiential businesses to the mix, our first step was ensuring that our ordinances were refreshed and reflective of the town we have become and strive to be – a local destination in the heart of Central Jersey. The collaboration and partnership on this project is a testament to what makes our Borough so special.”

“We are so excited to welcome YESTERcades to our Downtown Metuchen community. They’re a great addition to our business community,” said Bobbie Theivakumaran, MDA chair. “Winning the Great American Main Street Award in March was a validation of the incredible work done in collaboration between the Borough, the MDA, and its many volunteers, and all of that has led to Metuchen being able to court and attract a premier brand like YESTERcades. We look forward to all the opportunities and joy this will bring the community.”

The property is being developed by Rory Josell, a lifelong Metuchen resident, who says it is so gratifying to contribute to her own community through this project.

“My family, along with partners the Rosamilias, share a profound commitment to enhancing our downtown through acquiring, improving, and managing properties throughout the town,” said Josell. “We are thrilled to have worked with the mayor and council, the Borough, and the MDA to bring this collaboration to fruition.”

Mayor Jonathan Busch said that as someone who spent a lot of time in arcades growing up, the opportunity to welcome YESTERcades to Metuchen was like something out of a dream.

“As mayor, your hope is to cultivate a thriving downtown where residents want to spend their time and people from outside the Borough want to visit,” said Busch. “YESTERcades is that special business that will help achieve that goal.”

EDISON, NJ — Edison Township Public Schools and Metuchen School District maintained their high grades in the latest school rankings released this week, according to Niche’s 2024 Best Schools and Districts.

According to the latest ranking, Edison Schools ranked 2nd in Middlesex County at rank 1 and was placed 31st in the state, while Metuchen was ranked 4th in the county and 44th in NJ.

These rankings and grades, published annually for the past nine years, compare schools and districts across the United States by combining feedback from parents and students with hard data on schools, teachers, and student performance.

EDISON

Edison School District, which serves about 16,268 students, has an overall "A" grade from Niche.

Here's how they were graded on various metrics:

The lowest grades the district received were in food, resources and facilities. Edison has launched a $100 million project to address the overcrowding in the school district. The project includes adding a classroom to J.P Stevens High School, a gym addition to Herbert Hoover Gym, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, a new auditorium to Edison High School and more.

The district also ranked 23rd in NJ for having the best teachers.

The average graduation rate in the school district is 94 percent, with 64 percent of students proficient in reading and 44 percent in math, according to Niche.

The average teacher's salary in the district is $84,238 and the student-teacher ratio is 15:1.

METUCHEN

Metuchen School District has an overall "A" grade from Niche. The district serves about 2,276 students.

Here's how they were graded:

The average graduation rate in the school district is 95 percent, with 65 percent of students proficient in reading and 44 percent in math, according to Niche.

The average teacher's salary in the district is $71,347 and the student-teacher ratio is 15:1.

The rankings differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.

EDISON, NJ — School administrators in New Jersey are among the highest-paid in the country and it comes as no surprise they make upwards of $150,000.

The state Department of Education recently released data that showed over 3,200 administrators made $150,000 or more during the 2022-23 school year — an increase after 2,556 did so the year prior.

This also includes members from the Edison and Metuchen school districts.

Patch pulled salary data that includes superintendents, principals and assistant principals, curriculum directors and other employees in administrative positions within New Jersey schools.

Since the data is from the 2022-2023 school year, the list also includes former Edison Superintendent Bernard F Bragen, who was among the top 20 highest-paid school administrators in NJ.

The highest-paid Superintendent in New Jersey is Leigh Byron, of Trenton Stem-To-Civics charter school who makes $384,000 a year.

Here are the top earners in Edison and Metuchen, along with their current or most recent position and most recent salary. All data comes from the New Jersey Department of Education:

EDISON:

METUCHEN:

Why Are School Administrator Salaries Rising?

Back in 2011, then-Gov. Chris Christie implemented a $175,000 cap for superintendents. The Christie administration raised the maximum base pay for superintendents to $191,584 in 2017.

Then in 2019, Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law that eliminated the cap for superintendent salaries but set guidelines for school-executive contracts to limit or standardize bonuses and other perks.

School executive pay has long been a controversial subject in both local school district budgeting and state policy. While administrative salaries are often a flashpoint for criticism in school policy, many districts struggled to maintain experienced superintendents when the position's pay was capped, according to a 2019 analysis from NJ Spotlight.

Superintendents, principals and other school leaders throughout the nation have faced intense scrutiny for COVID-19 management and from politically charged movements to overhaul or eliminate certain subjects and topics from the curriculum. But those obstacles have also fallen to teachers and other rank-and-file school employees. And New Jersey has faced a shortage of teaching candidates that preceded the pandemic.
