What is Chiropractic Care?

head-btm

Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-invasive approach to overall wellness and healing that focuses on correcting issues with your musculoskeletal system. When performed by a licensed chiropractor, it can alleviate and even eliminate common problems such as:

  • Back Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Knee Pain
  • Automobile Injuries
  • Sports Injuries

  • Body Aches

To treat your conditions and help reduce your pain, chiropractors use time-tested, hands-on techniques to adjust your spine, neck, back, and other joints throughout your body to restore proper function, mobility, and alignment. Once your body is in proper alignment, it functions optimally, leading to improved overall wellness and health.

Unlike some sports rehab clinics in The Garden State, chiropractors from NJ Sports Spine & Wellness work with you one-on-one to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific goals and needs relating to your pain and ability to live a normal life. Because our team takes a holistic approach to healthcare, we cover all aspects of your health and wellness when developing your chiropractic treatment plan. Lower Back Pain Manalapan, NJ

Relief from Back Pain

Perhaps the most obvious reason to make an appointment with a chiropractor is for back pain relief. Some people only need to see a chiropractor when they have occasional back pain, such as when they wake up in the morning. Others, such as those who have been in serious car accidents, need regular chiropractic adjustments and therapies, which are often supplemented with techniques like physical therapy and acupuncture.

There are many causes of back pain that range from advanced conditions like having sciatica and herniated discs to everyday issues like poor posture and sleeping in a harmful position. Your chiropractor's job is to pinpoint the cause(s) of your back pain and build a customized plan to address your musculoskeletal conditions. Once that happens, pain relief follows shortly after.

At New Jersey Sports Spine & Wellness, we craft personalized chiropractic plans for every patient we treat, with the goal of avoiding harmful surgeries and addictive medicines.

Your NJ Sports Spine & Wellness chiropractor in Manalapan may use a range of techniques to restore function and alignment in your body. Some of the most common techniques our chiropractors use include:

  • Mobilization: This chiropractic strategy uses gentle movements to help restore joint functionality and proper spinal alignment.
  • Manipulation: Spinal manipulation uses controlled force and gravity to correct spinal issues and restore healthy alignment.
  • Electrical Stimulation: With this therapy, electrical currents are used to stimulate your muscles and help heal injuries faster.
  • Soft Tissue Therapy: This type of massage and other hands-on techniques relieve muscle tension while providing pain relief and promoting soft tissue health.
  • Trigger Point Therapy: With this therapy, the targeted use of pressure is used to release tension and improve functionality across specific areas of your body.
  • Ultrasounds: High-frequency sound waves can break up plaque and help stimulate your body's natural healing processes for injuries and wounds.

Reclaim Your Active Life with Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Care

head-btm

Life has a habit of being unexpected. Sure, some surprises only hurt your bank account, like last-minute renovations in your home. But severe incidents, like car accidents, can inflict physical injuries that cause you long-term pain. These problems, like neck and back injuries, affect many Americans daily. Even worse, many hardworking people turn to risky surgeries and addictive pain medications, only to find themselves deep in a hole that seems impossible to get out of.

If you suffer from serious range-of-motion issues or you're in chronic pain, it's important to know that you have treatment choices. You don't have to put your health at risk to relieve your pain. One of the most successful non-invasive treatments offered for pain is physical therapy. The main goal of physical therapy is to restore movement and function to patients affected by illness, injury, or disability.

Physical therapists work with patients of all ages and abilities, from children to elderly adults, to help them overcome physical limitations and improve their quality of life. At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, our physical therapists help treat a wide range of conditions, from neck pain and spinal cord injuries to back pain and arthritis.

Once our PTs have made headway, they will often use our chiropractic therapy to provide the patient with more relief. Having the option of both chiropractic and physical therapy is often very effective, because your chiropractor in Manalapan can address nerve irritation and joint dysfunction while your physical therapist helps retrain your musculoskeletal system, allowing your body to heal faster.

Some of the biggest benefits of using physical therapy along with chiropractic care include:

  • Restoring Mobility After Injury, Surgery, or Illness
  • Developing Flexibility and Strength for Physical Activities
  • Safe Relief from Chronic Pain
  • Improved Spine and Joint Health
  • Enhanced Knowledge of Your Body and How to Prevent Injuries

Engage in Activities of Daily Living with Occupational Therapy and Chiropractic Therapy

head-btm

Occupational therapy, or OT, is to help patients of all ages and abilities engage in activities of daily living, or ADL. Often, that means helping patients reclaim the ability to continue working, going to school, accomplishing day-to-day tasks, or other activities common to daily living.

Occupational therapy can benefit individuals going through many conditions, such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, and chronic pain. The end goal of occupational therapy is to help patients achieve the maximum level of independence and participation in their daily lives. If pain, discomfort, weakness, fatigue, or fear prevent you from participating in activities you love, an OT from NJ Sports Spine & Wellness could become the MVP of your wellness journey.

To give our patients the most complete pain relief and recovery options, our doctors and practitioners will often lean on the expertise of both a physical therapist and a chiropractor in Manalapan. By working together, your PT, OT, and chiropractor can provide you with a comprehensive approach to total-body functionality, from your spine and joints to your mind and range of motion.

Some of the most common benefits of using OT with chiropractic care include:

  • Chronic Pain Relief
  • Improvement of Both Physical and Mental, Emotional, or Developmental Disabilities
  • Improved Development of Fine Motor Skills
  • Better Spine and Musculoskeletal Health
  • Help with Sensory Processing Disorders
  • Much More

Boost Self-Healing Processes with Acupuncture and Chiropractic Care

head-btm

Acupuncture boosts your body's functions and helps improve its ability to heal through anatomic site stimulation - usually called acupuncture points or acupoints. To stimulate these points, acupuncturists at NJ Sports Spine & Wellness insert fine, sterile needles into your skin. Most patients don't feel any pain as needles are applied. Typically, needles are left in the skin up to 30 minutes. After your session, it's normal to feel incredibly relaxed.

While some practitioners still adhere to traditional philosophies, modern acupuncturists take an integrative approach to the therapy. Today, professional acupuncturists use these techniques to stimulate your body's natural healing and pain-fighting processes. When coupled with personalized care from a chiropractor in Manalapan as well as physical or occupational therapy, you can find real relief from the physical and emotional roadblocks holding you back. Some of the most reported benefits of acupuncture treatment include:

  • Back, Neck, and General Pain Relief
  • Improved Digestion and Relief from IBS and Acid Reflux
  • Relief from Menstrual Cramps
  • Treatment for Allergies and Asthma
  • Enhanced Blood Flow
  • Much More

During an acupuncture session, you may feel a slight sensation of warmth or tingling at the needle's site of insertion. Generally speaking, acupuncture is painless and perfectly safe for you to consider. In fact, many practitioners and doctors recommend combining acupuncture with other treatment options like chiropractic adjustments.

Though acupuncture and chiropractic therapies come from different origins, both include non-invasive, holistic, and gentle approaches that don't require drugs to work. They also both facilitate total-body healing by addressing the underlying causes of your symptoms - not just the symptoms themselves.

Because acupuncture is known to release endorphins and improve blood flow, having a session prior to a chiropractic adjustment can be very beneficial. That's because, after acupuncture, your muscles are less stiff, more relaxed, and easier to adjust effectively. Over time, as you combine acupuncture and chiropractic therapy, you'll benefit from less inflammation and less pain as you heal from injuries or musculoskeletal conditions. That same truth applies to patients who undergo serious chiropractic adjustments.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Olde Silver Tavern is officially celebrating its first anniversary since reopening in Manalapan.

Known for its gastropub menu and traditional American tavern fare, the restaurant was previously closed in 2009 due to damages from a fire.

In January 2014, the Manalapan Planning Board approved the site’s final plans to reopen, and in September 2024, the tavern celebrated its first year back in the Manalapan community.

For restaurant owners, Vanessa and Gus DiFiglia and James and Sandra Lawson, the tavern’s first anniversary is one that’s close to the heart. Olde Silver Tavern is a town landmark, and James Lawson said he knows how much the space means to Manalapan residents.

“I’ve lived in the community since 1999,” Lawson said. “I visited the old place [before the tavern was closed], my children all went to Manalapan High School — we were in the old venue at least once a week.”

Find out what's happening in Manalapanwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

When the opportunity presented itself for Lawson to buy the tavern with his wife Sandra and fellow couple Vanessa and Gus DiFiglia, Lawson said it was “a no-brainer.”

“I think we brought a beautiful building and facility back to life,” Lawson said. “The old place was kind of collapsing on itself, and I think now we have a facility that suits the area and can handle the amount of people.”

For the Lawsons and DiFiglias, revitalizing Olde Silver Tavern was about more than just physical repairs.

According to James Lawson, many of the restaurant’s patrons grew up in the tri-state area. As someone who worked in Brooklyn for almost 30 years, Lawson said he wanted to re-create the sense of community customers were familiar with at establishments back home.

“I think what we’re trying to do is recreate what made it really good without the structural and physical deficiencies the old place had,” Lawson said. “Many people that live in this area now are from the New York tri-state area, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and we want to re-create that sense of community, where, you know, the tavern becomes a meeting place — it’s a public house.”

According to Vanessa DiFiglia, the tavern’s “public house” function can have multiple purposes.

"We do celebrations, we've had baptisms, baby showers, birthdays, retirements," DiFiglia said. "Plus, we're very sports-oriented. We have televisions around the bar and on the patio, so people can come and watch games."

Whether it’s a birthday celebration, town meeting, or just a group of friends who want to watch a game, the restaurant's owners want Olde Silver Tavern to be the first option for community gatherings.

“We want to be that place where people are like ‘Oh wow, they have space,’ or ‘Oh, they have that extra room,’” Lawson said. “And not just community in Manalapan, but the surrounding towns also. There’s value to being able to sit down and talk face-to-face that you can’t get on Zoom.”

More than anything, the owners want customers to know that, to them, they’re more than customers. When people visit Olde Silver Tavern, James Lawson and Vanessa DiFiglia said they want them to feel like they’re at home.

“They’re not customers,” Lawson said. “They become friends. We know their names, we know their kids’ names, we know what schools their kids go to. We know what team you root for because that’s what we've done for almost 30 years.”

“Running the restaurant is something we love,” Lawson continued. “But what we love more is getting together and having people enjoy themselves.”

What drove you to seek public office?I decided to run for the school board because I’m deeply passionate about maintaining high educational standards and ensuring that our schools continue to be a source of pride for the community. Growing up as a public school student in Queens, NY, I’ve experienced firsthand the impact that a strong public education can have in shaping a child’s future.

Find out what's happening in Manalapanwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

With one child already in the district, another starting next year, and a baby due next month, I have a personal stake in the long-term success of our schools. This personal investment motivates me to focus on both immediate challenges and long-term solutions that bring stability, consistency, and success for our schools.

As a candidate for the Manalapan-Englishtown Board of Education, I believe in transparency around how I will prioritize my efforts and make decisions if elected. Here are the guiding principles that will shape my work:

Ultimately, I’m committed to bringing a pragmatic, thoughtful, and non-political approach to the board. Being a board member is not about pushing any political or ideological agenda, but about providing every child the opportunity to succeed.

My focus will always be on clear communication, long-term success, and ensuring that our schools remain strong for generations to come.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?Since announcing my candidacy in July, I’ve been fortunate to meet many neighbors in our community, and one of the most common questions I receive is, “What makes you different?”

My answer is straightforward: I bring a pragmatic leadership style, focusing on what matters most to our children and community while avoiding unnecessary distractions.

As a parent with one child already in the district, another starting soon, and a baby on the way, I’m in it for the long haul. I’m committed to bringing stability and consistency to the board for years to come. Whether at school events at Wemrock, on the soccer field at Milford Brook, or at the Rec. Center playgrounds, I understand the day-to-day challenges we face as a community because I’m living them alongside you.

I believe in providing every child with a high-quality education that is focused on their success, and I’m dedicated to ensuring our schools continue to be a cornerstone for our community.

What do you see as the biggest issue facing Manalapan, and how will you resolve it?Our district faces several significant challenges, starting with the budget, which has been strained by state funding cuts. Since 2019, we’ve lost nearly $50 million, forcing tough decisions like deferring critical capital improvement projects and reallocating resources.

Despite these financial hurdles, the district remains dedicated to maintaining high-quality education. My experience managing budgets and driving innovative solutions will be key to addressing these issues. By focusing on financial efficiency and seeking alternative funding sources, we can reduce the impact of these cuts without increasing taxes.

Maintaining educational excellence is a top priority, even amid financial strain. It’s essential to manage the budget carefully while identifying new revenue opportunities that don’t affect taxes. This approach will allow us to keep our academic programs strong and continue providing the best opportunities for our students.

Collaboration between parents and administration is also vital. Whether addressing bullying (such as HIB incidents), improving special needs programs, or tackling social issues, parents must have a voice. I’m committed to fostering open communication and collaboration so we can work together to develop solutions that best serve our students.

With a focus on transparency, financial responsibility, and community involvement, I’m ready to help our district overcome these challenges and continue to thrive.

What are past accomplishments or experiences that make you qualified for this position? With nearly two decades of experience as a consultant, business owner, and corporate professional, I’ve developed key skills in managing significant budgets, leading cross-functional teams, and finding practical solutions to complex problems. These experiences have prepared me to immediately contribute value to the board.

In addition, my work with legal, compliance, and risk teams has equipped me to navigate policies and regulations, ensuring that we make sound, compliant decisions for the district. I’ve also worked extensively with diverse stakeholders, teaching me the importance of aligning goals with the needs of those I represent.

This experience will allow me to collaborate effectively with the administration while ensuring that the voices of parents, students, and the broader community guide our decision-making.

Name one thing about Manalapan that always makes you smile. One of the most rewarding aspects of this campaign has been the opportunity to meet neighbors from all over Manalapan and learn about their priorities and concerns. The kindness and support I’ve received from our community during these conversations has been truly heartwarming.

On a personal note, walking the neighborhoods with my children and seeing how welcoming people have been is a reminder of what makes this town special—it’s the community spirit. It’s moments like these that reinforce why I’m so proud to call Manalapan home.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Manalapan Township hosted a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday night to discuss the potential sale of the town’s water company amidst resident concerns.

The sale will appear as a referendum question on the Nov. 5 ballot and ask voters if the town can sell its water system to Veolia Water New Jersey for $4M.

Here’s what you need to know about the sale and who it affects:

Manalapan’s water sourcesCurrently, there are three main water sources in Manalapan; well water which supports 5% of homes, Gordons Corner Water Company which supports 76% of homes and Manalapan Township Water (currently managed by Veolia) which supports 18% of homes.

If the referendum passes in November, Manalapan Township Water would be sold to Veolia, though there would be no change for Gordons Corner Water Company or well water customers.

Find out what's happening in Manalapanwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Additionally, Township Administrator Tara Lovrich said Veolia told the town that rates would stay stable for at least two years if sold to Veolia, with 3% increases the following three years.

If the referendum doesn’t pass, Mayor Mary Ann Musich said there will be changes for the entire town due to improvements that need to be done to the water system.

“If we don’t sell the water utility and we end up keeping it, all the improvements that have to be done — probably $20M plus — we would have to bond for,” Musich said. “So everybody in the town will then have to pay for that.”

Homeowners who receive water from Gordons Corner Water Company, Manalapan Township Water and from well service all pay for improvements to the Manalapan Water System through taxes and the municipal budget.

Despite paying for these improvements, only those who receive water from the Manalapan Township water system benefit from them.

By selling to Veolia, Musich said improvements to the town’s water system would no longer be residents’ problem.

“If we don’t sell the water utility, that $20 million of infrastructure work will be our problem,” Musich said. “If that happens, then we will have to bond for it, and then everybody will have to pay for that.”

Resident concernsMultiple residents who attended Wednesday night’s meeting took to the floor to express their concerns about the sale.

During the meeting, one resident questioned why the Township didn’t negotiate the price of Veolia’s $4M bid. Musich said that when it comes to municipal government, negotiation isn’t part of the process.

“The way municipal government works — when somebody bids, unless there’s something wrong with the bid, we have to take it,” Musich said. “We don’t have an option.”

Lovrich added that Veolia was also the only bidder for the town’s water system.

“We didn’t know who the successful bidder would have been,” Lovrich said. “We didn’t know who it would be, or if it was Veolia — it could have been anybody. So our professionals, our engineers, our attorneys, our financial advisors had to do a study of the whole system.”

Another resident who attended Wednesday night’s meeting questioned why improvements to the water system are only being done now and haven’t been done over time.

According to Musich, the system has been maintained over the years but now requires work due to its age.

“They [Veolia] were maintaining it,” Musich said. “It’s just that the system is now aging, so now it requires a lot more work.”

Throughout the meeting, Township officials emphasized that this is the first of many meetings that will delve into the details of the sale.

Ultimately, it will be up to residents to vote their approval or disapproval of the referendum in November.

“This is only the first town hall,” Lovrich said. “There will be so much information coming out, and you’ll learn so much more. I think the issue right now is the lack of information because we have to go through the process, we have to do what our attorneys tell us, and so those are the baby steps.”

To see the bid for Manalapan’s water system, you can visit the Manalapan Township website.
