Physical Therapy:

Optimizing Musculoskeletal Health with Conservative Care

The field of Physical Therapy (PT) aims to rehabilitate individuals who have experienced injury, illness, or disability by restoring their mobility and function. Physical therapists cater to patients of various ages and capabilities, ranging from young athletes to senior citizens, in order to help them surpass physical limitations and improve their standard of living with advanced knee pain treatment in Sea Girt, NJ.

At NJ Sports Spine and Wellness, our physical therapy program was founded on a patient-centric philosophy, where physical therapists work closely with patients to get a deep understanding of their goals, preferences, and capabilities. In doing so, they can create a tailor-made treatment strategy to address their unique knee pain with the goal of avoiding a knee replacement. Treatment may involve exercises that are therapeutic in nature and can include:

  • Joint mobilizations
  • Soft tissue mobilization using cupping
  • Graston technique
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Stretching of associated muscle groups

Joint Mobilization for Knee Pain

This unique knee pain solution involves physical therapists using skilled manual therapy techniques to help improve your joint range of motion while simultaneously reducing your knee pain.

During joint mobilization, a physical therapist applies targeted pressures or forces to a joint in specific directions to improve its mobility. The intensity of the force applied can vary, and it is adjusted based on the patient's comfort level. Joint mobilization is generally pain-free.

STM

Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM)

Soft Tissue Mobilization is a manual therapy technique that involves stretching and applying deep pressure to rigid muscle tissue. This helps to relax muscle tension and move fluids that are trapped in the tissues that cause pain and inflammation. This effective form of physical therapy is often used as an advanced knee pain treatment in Sea Girt, NJ for treating knee strains, knee sprains, knee pain, and more.

Graston

The Graston Technique

The Graston Technique involves the use of handheld instruments to identify and break up scar tissue through specialized massage. During a Graston Technique session, physical therapists use convex and concave tools for cross-friction massage, which involves rubbing or brushing against the grain of the scar tissue. This process re-introduces small amounts of trauma to the affected area. In some cases, this process temporarily causes inflammation, which can actually boost the amount and rate of blood flow in the knee. This process helps initiate and promote the healing process so you can get back to a normal life.

Massage

Soft Tissue Massage

Soft tissue massage is a less intense form of massage than it's deep-tissue relative. Instead of focusing on slow and firm strokes to reach the deep layers of muscles and tissues, this massage technique uses a variety of pressures, depths, and durations. Soft tissue massage is helpful in alleviating different types of knee aches, pains, and injuries. Soft tissue massages can also help reduce stress, improve circulation, and promote relaxation.

Advanced Mechanics and Technology:

The Future of Knee Pain Therapy

While knee pain is a common symptom that affects millions of Americans every year, no two cases of knee pain are ever exactly alike. Some types of knee injuries require non-traditional solutions. At New Jersey Sports Spine and Wellness, we offer a range of treatments that leverage mechanics and technology to help patients recover from injuries while treating inflammation and pain as well as resolve the root cause of the pain.

AlterAlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill is equipped with NASA Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, which is a precise air calibration system that uses the user's actual body weight to enhance rehabilitation and training. By utilizing a pressurized air chamber, the AlterG allows patients and athletes to move without any pain or restrictions.

This advanced knee pain treatment in Sea Girt, NJ uniformly reduces gravitational load and body weight up to 80% in precise 1% increments. The results can be incredible, with patients reporting benefits such as:

  • Restoring and building of knee strength
  • Restored range of motion in the knee
  • Better balance
  • Improved knee function
  • More

What Makes the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill So Effective?

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill can monitor various metrics such as speed, gait pattern, stride length, and weight distribution. With real-time feedback and video monitoring, your rehabilitation team can promptly and accurately identify issues and pain points or monitor your progress throughout your knee pain rehabilitation journey.

One of the key benefits of this cutting-edge equipment is that it replicates natural walking and movement patterns without the artificial feel that hydrotherapy or harnesses create. This makes it an excellent choice for faster recovery after knee injuries or surgeries, as it allows for early mobilization while also preserving strength. Furthermore, it is ideal for sports recovery as athletes can use it for physical conditioning maintenance.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Our advanced treatment modalities for knee pain include laser therapy, which harnesses the revolutionary power of light through photobiomodulation (PBM). LiteCureâ„¢ low-level laser therapy is available for acute and chronic types of knee pain and can be hugely beneficial when coupled with physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic care, and sports recovery care.

Understanding Photobiomodulation (PBM)

PBM is a medical treatment that harnesses the power of light to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. The photons from the light penetrate deep into the tissue and interact with mitochondria, which results in a boost in energy production. This interaction sets off a biological chain reaction that increases cellular metabolism. Utilizing low-level light therapy has been shown to:

  • Alleviate knee pain
  • Speed up tissue healing
  • Promote overall health and wellness
  • Expedite knee pain injury recovery

Exclusive Access to

Pain Management Professionals

At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, we know that every patient requires a personalized approach to chronic knee pain and condition management. Sometimes, our patients need access to pain management professionals, who can offer relief in conjunction with physical therapy and other solutions like low-level laser therapy.

Two of the most common services we offer for pain management includes acupuncture which can assist in avoiding knee replacement surgery.

Acupuncture is a common treatment for knee pain that involves inserting thin needles into specific points in your knee. This ancient Chinese medicine has gained popularity in Western culture due to its effectiveness in treating various conditions with minimal side effects.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system to release various biochemicals, including endorphins and other neurotransmitters. The release of these chemicals helps to reduce inflammation, decrease pain perception, and improve overall blood circulation.

Multiple studies have shown that acupuncture can be effective in treating knee pain caused by a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis and injuries related to physical activity like running. Acupuncture can also help reduce inflammation, improve muscle function, and decrease pain perception, making it a viable treatment on its own or as an addition to traditional treatment methods like physical therapy.

When undergoing acupuncture, a professional acupuncturist will insert thin needles into specific acupoints on the skin. These needles are left in place for roughly 20 to 30 minutes and may be gently stimulated for an enhanced effect. Patients might experience a slight tingle or warmth at the needle insertion site, but overall, acupuncture is considered a painless procedure.

Acupuncture has been a trusted and effective treatment option for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture as a legitimate form of healthcare, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has even funded research studies to explore its efficacy for a range of medical conditions. Some very late season bluefish decided to muscle their way into the schools of striped bass that were feeding a couple miles off the beach in the area of Sea Bright.

The Golden Eagle party boat and a few other boats were fishing there for stripers on Wednesday when the big bruisers started to come over the rail. Capt. Rich Falcone described them as jumbos as most required a gaff to bring overboard.

It's the second time in the last week that there have been blues reported albeit the other catches happened on an offshore wreck in about 200 feet of water where the blues tend to stop over once the inshore water gets cold.

The striper run though still has life in it, though fishermen are beginning to haul their boats out so participation is not what it was during the peak weeks of the run. Falcone had a boat limit of fish on Wednesday, including his bonus tags fish, and was knee deep in the fish once again on Thursday.

The fish are on the beaches too, chasing the sand eels. Jenni Ackerman at Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park has been getting into the bite at sunrise on their stretch of sand. The fish are all around slot size for the most part.

Long Beach Island surf fishermen entered a few more bass into the fall surf classic. None of the fish were big enough to knock Gordon Kirks, 12.14 pound bass off the leader board. The fish were caught at Barnegat Light and Beach Haven. The Beach Haven fish was caught on bunker, the others were on soft plastics or jigs.

Striped bass hearing

The public hearing for Addendum II to the striped bass Interstate Fishery Management Plan was Tuesday in Stafford. The Asbury Park Press was not able to get to this meeting but Paul Haertel who's heading the Jersey Coast Angler's Association striped bass committee said about 60 members of the public and NJ Marine Fisheries Council staff were present.

On the table are the striped bass options for 2024. The ASMFC wants to keep the emergency 28 to 31-inch size limit in place for another year in order to protect the 2015 years class and meet a rebuilding goal for 2029.

The press will have more on this next week as the deadline to submit public comment is Dec. 22. Jim Hutchinson Jr., managing editor of The Fisherman Magazine said the overall consensus was to keep the 28 to 31 inch size limit. There were a couple calls from the public to go out of compliance.

The ASMFC also has an option divide the recreational sector into a for-hire category and a private vessel/shore anglers category. In that scenario, the for-hire fleet would get a bigger 28 to 33-inch size limit while the private boaters would not.

Haertel said the JCAA is opposed to separating the recreational sector. Hutchinson said the measure did have much if any support from the rest of the room. For starters it could be an enforcement nightmare.

Aaron Rodgers has a lot to learn about New Jersey — Pauly D doesn’t count

Aaron Rodgers is officially a Jersey boy.

All last week, the new Jets quarterback was probed on his knowledge of the Garden State.

And I have devoured every detail like a delicious upside down square from Brooklyn Square Pizza (often named the state’s best pizza).

“The only Jersey I kind of knew about besides Teterboro was ‘Jersey Shore,'” he told the media at a recent Jets press conference. He added that he once caught a DJ Pauly D set in Vegas and was a fan of the show. “I was assured it was not a proper representation of this great state.”

The California native and longtime Wisconsin resident is correct. Like the rest of the non-NJ-speaking world, he’s only seen it through the hazy lens of a bunch of drunk bennys (seasonal interlopers who descend on the beaches) roaming the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

“I love the Boss [Bruce Springsteen]. I love Bon Jovi. I never really got into ‘Sopranos,’ which is crazy because I’ve watched all the other mob movies,” he also told Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio.

As a native of the shore area, I’d like to assure you, Mr. Rodgers, that the third state in the union is far more than guidos, Bon Jovi, butchering the English language and the sad dump Piper Perabo is trying to escape in “Coyote Ugly.”

Within its 21 counties lies rich colonial history, mountains, horse country and a long-standing war between the north and south over the rightful nomenclature of a pork product.

As your team owner could tell you, it’s where the Band-Aid was invented, which was convenient: see Action Park. It’s also where Thornton Melon perfected the Triple Lindy and Teresa Giudice flipped a table, coining the state motto, “prostitution whore.”

It’s what I like to call a high-low state. You won’t ever have to pump your own gas within its borders, but you’ll have to endure the farty fumes of the NJ Turnpike (Note: It will make you stronger).

You’ll also be required to show Tony some damn respect and get up to snuff on “The Sopranos.”

Rumor has it, you’re joining Trump Bedminster, which is in the monied, equine enclave of the state.

Hopefully, you’ll come to the real Jersey Shore, which is far more beautiful and diverse than the show depicts. There’s nothing New Age-y about it, but you’ll still love its pure bliss and raw energy.

There is Haskell Day at Monmouth Park, happy hour at the Parker House in Sea Girt, Sundays at Donovan’s Reef in Sea Bright and beach days in Spring Lake. If you want to meet your new constituents, simply greet the milelong lines of 20-somethings waiting outside of Leggetts and the Osprey in Manasquan on a Saturday night.

You can fill your vegan needs with produce galore at Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck. If you want to reunite with your old pal, Rhode Island native Pauly D, he’ll be at the Headliner in Neptune City on July 30.

And as my buddy Captain Cons over at Barstool noted, if Bruce isn’t on tour, you might catch him at the Manasquan Inlet, where’s he’s wont to wander.

What do you think? Post a comment.

I’m sure every local rich dude has offered to take you fishing on their boat and golfing at their country club. If you also want to be a man of the people, my friend Jim Brustman, lifelong Jets fan and Belmar ambassador, would like to invite you to his home on July 15, when his annual “Tour de Dirt” bike bar crawl is kicking off.

The options are endless. There’s a lot of personality and pop culture to catch up on, but you’ve got the wit and the ball-busting chops to thrive here.

And until the season starts and the fickle Jets fans find a reason to boo you, Jersey is your oyster.

It’s been a slow rebound for restaurants coming out of the pandemic, but it seems like new ones are popping up every day to satisfy patrons’ desire to eat out.

One New Jersey-based chain, Tommy’s Tavern + Tap, is planning on expanding its footprint in New Jersey.

As reported by NJ.com, Tommy’s is opening a new Mt. Laurel location later this month, with plans for even more restaurants to come.

Tommy’s currently has a restaurant in Newark, Deleware, and one on Staten Island, and seven in New Jersey: Sea Bright, Freehold, Clifton, Bridgewater, Edison, Princeton, and Morris Plains.

The CEO of the company that owns Tommy’s, Triple T Hospitality Group, Tim Selcov, told NJ.com that the next two locations, after Mt. Laurel, are Cherry Hill and Edgewater.

Tommy’s has a pretty expansive menu, ranging from bar burgers to pizza to ribs to pasta to sushi. They have specialty burgers and both red and white pizzas. There are 24 beers on tap.

Selcov told NJ.com,

We pride ourselves on having three separate kitchens,” Selcov explained. “We have coal-fired ovens where we’re shooting out quality, artisan pizzas out of our 800-degree oven as well as coal-fired wings, which are our staple. We also have a full tavern menu featuring burgers, salads, sandwiches, entrees and sharable appetizers. And we also have a full sushi kitchen that features fresh fish, multiple different rolls, poke bowls and sushi appetizers.

No exact opening dates have been announced for the new locations.

MERCER COUNTY, N.J. – A tornado that caused damage Tuesday in central New Jersey during the heart of winter has been rated an EF-2 by the National Weather Service.

The severe storms struck just before the evening rush hour, and enough rotation was detected on Doppler radar to issue a Tornado Warning for communities east of Trenton. Officials in West Windsor Township said they were inundated by calls from residents after the storm alerting them to power lines being down and trees falling into homes.

Officials at the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey, confirmed Wednesday that the twister touched down in the Quaker Bridge area of Mercer County and was on the ground for nearly 6 miles. Winds reached an estimated peak of 115 mph, which puts it in the EF-2 category of the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

END OF TRIPLE-DIP LA NINA IN SIGHT: WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR SPRING SEVERE WEATHER SEASON

(NOAA)

Less than an hour after the initial Tornado Warning, a trained weather spotter captured video of a waterspout off of Sea Girt Township, New Jersey.

The weather enthusiast said the funnel was faint and lasted only a few minutes while harmlessly over the Atlantic Ocean.

There have been no reports of injuries.

HOW METEOROLOGISTS DETERMINE IF A TORNADO IS TO BLAME FOR STORM DAMAGE

Hail spotted in New Jersey during severe storms

New Jersey residents took video of hail falling during severe storms on Tuesday.

Tornadoes in February are rare but not unheard of in the Garden State.

WHERE ARE TORNADOES MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR IN FEBRUARY?

This marks the first February tornado on record in Mercer County and only the fifth such twister statewide. The last one happened on Feb. 12, 1999, in Camden County, when an F-1 tornado swept through Cherry Hill and caused about $100,000 in damage.

Tuesday's twister is the strongest February tornado in New Jersey since an F-2 cyclone spun through Hunterdon, New Jersey, on Feb. 2, 1973.

There are a ton of beautiful restaurants in Monmouth & Ocean Counties. We are very lucky to have some of the best in our backyard. So when I heard that two Garden State restaurants made the list of the 25 Most Beautiful Restaurants In America, I was certain that one restaurant in particular was on the list.

First, let me start by saying that two in the top 25, according to Love Food, made me New Jersey proud, because that is awesome representation for us. But it turns out my glee was a bit short lived. The two Garden State restaurants were not from our area after all.

That's when I really started to get a little hot under the collar. I would put one of my favorite places, Scarborough Fair in Sea Girt in the conversation for one of the most beautiful restaurants in America any day of the week.

From the outside, there is no more adorable spot than Scarborough Fair. It's like taking a step back in time literally into the pages of a story book. And then you walk inside, and let me say that if you've never been there, prepare yourself. The interior is literally breathtaking. And so absolutely romantic.

And as I look at some of the restaurants that did make the list, I feel even more strongly that Scarborough Fair should have also been included. Not that the New Jersey restaurants that were chosen shouldn't be on the list as well.

For the record, the two New Jersey spots that were chosen for the list were The Chart House in Weehawken and Hunan Taste in Denville, both worthy restaurants, but so is Scarborough Fair.

All we can do is hope for the best for the next top 25, and go to Scarborough Fair as often as possible.
