Physical Therapy:

Optimizing Musculoskeletal Health with Conservative Care

The field of Physical Therapy (PT) aims to rehabilitate individuals who have experienced injury, illness, or disability by restoring their mobility and function. Physical therapists cater to patients of various ages and capabilities, ranging from young athletes to senior citizens, in order to help them surpass physical limitations and improve their standard of living with advanced knee pain treatment in Neptune City, NJ.

At NJ Sports Spine and Wellness, our physical therapy program was founded on a patient-centric philosophy, where physical therapists work closely with patients to get a deep understanding of their goals, preferences, and capabilities. In doing so, they can create a tailor-made treatment strategy to address their unique knee pain with the goal of avoiding a knee replacement. Treatment may involve exercises that are therapeutic in nature and can include:

  • Joint mobilizations
  • Soft tissue mobilization using cupping
  • Graston technique
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Stretching of associated muscle groups

Joint Mobilization for Knee Pain

This unique knee pain solution involves physical therapists using skilled manual therapy techniques to help improve your joint range of motion while simultaneously reducing your knee pain.

During joint mobilization, a physical therapist applies targeted pressures or forces to a joint in specific directions to improve its mobility. The intensity of the force applied can vary, and it is adjusted based on the patient's comfort level. Joint mobilization is generally pain-free.

STM

Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM)

Soft Tissue Mobilization is a manual therapy technique that involves stretching and applying deep pressure to rigid muscle tissue. This helps to relax muscle tension and move fluids that are trapped in the tissues that cause pain and inflammation. This effective form of physical therapy is often used as an advanced knee pain treatment in Neptune City, NJ for treating knee strains, knee sprains, knee pain, and more.

Graston

The Graston Technique

The Graston Technique involves the use of handheld instruments to identify and break up scar tissue through specialized massage. During a Graston Technique session, physical therapists use convex and concave tools for cross-friction massage, which involves rubbing or brushing against the grain of the scar tissue. This process re-introduces small amounts of trauma to the affected area. In some cases, this process temporarily causes inflammation, which can actually boost the amount and rate of blood flow in the knee. This process helps initiate and promote the healing process so you can get back to a normal life.

Massage

Soft Tissue Massage

Soft tissue massage is a less intense form of massage than it's deep-tissue relative. Instead of focusing on slow and firm strokes to reach the deep layers of muscles and tissues, this massage technique uses a variety of pressures, depths, and durations. Soft tissue massage is helpful in alleviating different types of knee aches, pains, and injuries. Soft tissue massages can also help reduce stress, improve circulation, and promote relaxation.

Advanced Mechanics and Technology:

The Future of Knee Pain Therapy

While knee pain is a common symptom that affects millions of Americans every year, no two cases of knee pain are ever exactly alike. Some types of knee injuries require non-traditional solutions. At New Jersey Sports Spine and Wellness, we offer a range of treatments that leverage mechanics and technology to help patients recover from injuries while treating inflammation and pain as well as resolve the root cause of the pain.

AlterAlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill is equipped with NASA Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, which is a precise air calibration system that uses the user's actual body weight to enhance rehabilitation and training. By utilizing a pressurized air chamber, the AlterG allows patients and athletes to move without any pain or restrictions.

This advanced knee pain treatment in Neptune City, NJ uniformly reduces gravitational load and body weight up to 80% in precise 1% increments. The results can be incredible, with patients reporting benefits such as:

  • Restoring and building of knee strength
  • Restored range of motion in the knee
  • Better balance
  • Improved knee function
  • More

What Makes the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill So Effective?

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill can monitor various metrics such as speed, gait pattern, stride length, and weight distribution. With real-time feedback and video monitoring, your rehabilitation team can promptly and accurately identify issues and pain points or monitor your progress throughout your knee pain rehabilitation journey.

One of the key benefits of this cutting-edge equipment is that it replicates natural walking and movement patterns without the artificial feel that hydrotherapy or harnesses create. This makes it an excellent choice for faster recovery after knee injuries or surgeries, as it allows for early mobilization while also preserving strength. Furthermore, it is ideal for sports recovery as athletes can use it for physical conditioning maintenance.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Our advanced treatment modalities for knee pain include laser therapy, which harnesses the revolutionary power of light through photobiomodulation (PBM). LiteCureâ„¢ low-level laser therapy is available for acute and chronic types of knee pain and can be hugely beneficial when coupled with physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic care, and sports recovery care.

Understanding Photobiomodulation (PBM)

PBM is a medical treatment that harnesses the power of light to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. The photons from the light penetrate deep into the tissue and interact with mitochondria, which results in a boost in energy production. This interaction sets off a biological chain reaction that increases cellular metabolism. Utilizing low-level light therapy has been shown to:

  • Alleviate knee pain
  • Speed up tissue healing
  • Promote overall health and wellness
  • Expedite knee pain injury recovery

Exclusive Access to

Pain Management Professionals

At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, we know that every patient requires a personalized approach to chronic knee pain and condition management. Sometimes, our patients need access to pain management professionals, who can offer relief in conjunction with physical therapy and other solutions like low-level laser therapy.

Two of the most common services we offer for pain management includes acupuncture which can assist in avoiding knee replacement surgery.

Acupuncture is a common treatment for knee pain that involves inserting thin needles into specific points in your knee. This ancient Chinese medicine has gained popularity in Western culture due to its effectiveness in treating various conditions with minimal side effects.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system to release various biochemicals, including endorphins and other neurotransmitters. The release of these chemicals helps to reduce inflammation, decrease pain perception, and improve overall blood circulation.

Multiple studies have shown that acupuncture can be effective in treating knee pain caused by a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis and injuries related to physical activity like running. Acupuncture can also help reduce inflammation, improve muscle function, and decrease pain perception, making it a viable treatment on its own or as an addition to traditional treatment methods like physical therapy.

When undergoing acupuncture, a professional acupuncturist will insert thin needles into specific acupoints on the skin. These needles are left in place for roughly 20 to 30 minutes and may be gently stimulated for an enhanced effect. Patients might experience a slight tingle or warmth at the needle insertion site, but overall, acupuncture is considered a painless procedure.

Acupuncture has been a trusted and effective treatment option for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture as a legitimate form of healthcare, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has even funded research studies to explore its efficacy for a range of medical conditions. NEPTUNE - Craft store Hobby Lobby is bringing another store to Monmouth County.

The retailer, which has stores in Holmdel, Marlboro and Howell, has leased a large store at the Neptune Plaza Shopping Center on Route 66, according to Azarian Realty Co., the shopping center’s leasing and managing agent. The store is expected to open in 2024.

The lease of the 58,952-square-foot space fills an anchor store on the Route 66-facing portion of the shopping center vacated after Marshalls and Home Goods left in 2020. Hobby Lobby will join KPot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot, a new renter announced in September 2022.

“When Marshalls and Home Goods relocated in the market, it left considerable upside and opportunity to reposition the Neptune Plaza Shopping Center for the long-term ownership group we represent,” said Kevin Pelio, senior director of leasing at Azarian Realty Co., who represented the landlord in the lease transaction. Michael Testa of Jeffery Realty represented Hobby Lobby.

“Hobby Lobby was able to see that long-term vision and their future success at the property as well,” Pelio said in a statement. “We are slated to begin the oversight of the renovation and construction on this box in the next few weeks and look forward to Hobby Lobby’s highly anticipated opening.”

The addition of the craft store means that Neptune Plaza Shopping Center is now 99.3% leased, with only a 1,621-square-foot shop available, Azarian Realty said in a post on LinkedIn. The center is anchored by an 113,000-square-foot ShopRite supermarket. Other tenants include IHOP and Carvel and a free-standing TD Bank branch.

"I knew I always wanted to work with plants," she said.

Kocsis explained that she learned how to garden from her Father, who grew up on a farm in Spain.

She recalled spending summers on the farm where eucalyptus trees were abundant.

"When you go there, the air smells like it," Kocsis said, adding, "The shop's name is a tribute to my Father and where he's from."

Kocsis selects all of her horticultural products from nurseries throughout New Jersey and New York.

Currently, the most popular sellers are the Tradescantia Nanouk and Calathea Musaica.

The shop includes a potting bar where individuals can bring in empty pots to be filled with a plant of their choice.

"I try to keep everything affordable to everybody," Kocsis said.

The shop offers a personalized consultation to pair the right plant with the right plant owner's home environment and lifestyle.

"I offer something different for collectors or for people who are new to collecting plants," she said.

Kocsis said the most rewarding part of her job is interacting with customers and helping answer any questions that they may have about caring for their plants.

"I like making people happy. I talk to every single person that comes in," Kocsis said.

"I especially enjoy when people come in, and they don't know what they're looking for — I help them find the right plant for them, and they leave really happy."

Additionally, Eucalyptus Houseplants and Home offers classes, demonstrations and an event space for private parties.

The shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gov. Phil Murphy signed bipartisan legislation into law during an Aug. 25 event in Neptune City that aims to protect veterans and their families from potential fraudsters.

The measure (Senate Bill 3292/Assembly Bill 3286) establishes standard requirements that must be followed for any individuals seeking compensation for providing assistance to veterans and their families regarding benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA).

Some of the highlights of the new law include:

“Our veterans put their lives on the line in service to our country and have more than earned the benefits for which they and their loved ones are eligible,” said Murphy. “We must protect veterans and their families from unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of them by overcharging for assistance with those benefits. This legislation will help ensure these bad actors either follow all applicable federal standards or face the consequences.”

Under the new law, any violation of the terms would be considered a violation of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, which could result in monetary or other penalties.

“New Jersey veterans deserve to be treated with respect for the sacrifices they’ve made, not financially exploited in their time of need,” said Cari Fais, acting director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. “This legislation makes it easier for the Division to hold accountable those who cheat veterans under the guise of helping them access benefits they earned while defending our country and our freedoms.”

“Our Garden State veterans, who exemplified honor and integrity during their service in uniform, rightfully deserve honest support from those who assist them in securing their hard-earned benefits,” said Brig. Gen. Lisa Hou, NJDMAVA commissioner and the adjunct general of New Jersey. “The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has federally trained and certified Veterans Services Officers employed throughout the state for the express purpose of providing free-of-charge help to veterans navigating claims and appeals for state and federal benefits.”

‘A layer of transparency’

The bipartisan measure, which received unanimous support in the Legislature, was sponsored by state Sens. Vin Gopal, D-11th District, and Shirley Turner, D-15th District, as well as Assembly members Joe Danielsen, D-17th District; Sean Kean, R-30th District; and Michele Matsikoudis, R-21st District.

ICYMI

In July, a 41-year-old Colts Neck man was charged with allegedly defrauding two dozen Gold Star families. Click here to read more.

“Veterans who served and protected our country from our enemies abroad now find themselves in need of protection here at home from bad actors, scammers, and dishonest brokers who would target them for ill-gotten financial gain,” said Gopal. “This law adds a layer of transparency concerning those who seek to advise veterans about benefits and claims, bars these unaccredited consultants from receiving any compensation for services that aren’t now recognized under federal law and keeps our veterans safe from unscrupulous operators who would prey upon them.”

“Helping veterans access their earned benefits is a privilege, not an opportunity pad one’s pockets,” said Kean. “This law protects New Jersey veterans and their families from the bad actors out there who want to take advantage of their service.”

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of New Jersey applauded the measure and thanked the Legislature for its bipartisan support, “which led to today’s action by the governor on this law making it a violation of the Consumer Fraud Act for persons to receive compensation for advising or assisting or referring any individual to another person to advise or assist, with any veterans benefits matter, except as is permitted under federal law,” the organization said in a statement.

“In addition to our state offices, there are Federal VA offices and a number of volunteer organizations that also seek to help veterans better understand and pursue their benefits and entitlements, providing a wealth of experiences and lessons learned free-of-charge,” Hou added. “I encourage all New Jerseyans who have worn the uniform to connect with our VSOs by visiting www.nj.gov/military for a list of offices, or call us, toll-free at 1-888-8N-J-VETS.”
