Let's take a closer look at some of the knee pain treatments available at NJ Sports Spine and Wellness, which all serve as great alternatives to knee replacement surgery.

Physical Therapy:

Optimizing Musculoskeletal Health with Conservative Care

The field of Physical Therapy (PT) aims to rehabilitate individuals who have experienced injury, illness, or disability by restoring their mobility and function. Physical therapists cater to patients of various ages and capabilities, ranging from young athletes to senior citizens, in order to help them surpass physical limitations and improve their standard of living with advanced knee pain treatment in Brielle, NJ.

At NJ Sports Spine and Wellness, our physical therapy program was founded on a patient-centric philosophy, where physical therapists work closely with patients to get a deep understanding of their goals, preferences, and capabilities. In doing so, they can create a tailor-made treatment strategy to address their unique knee pain with the goal of avoiding a knee replacement. Treatment may involve exercises that are therapeutic in nature and can include:

  • Joint mobilizations
  • Soft tissue mobilization using cupping
  • Graston technique
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Stretching of associated muscle groups

Joint Mobilization for Knee Pain

This unique knee pain solution involves physical therapists using skilled manual therapy techniques to help improve your joint range of motion while simultaneously reducing your knee pain.

During joint mobilization, a physical therapist applies targeted pressures or forces to a joint in specific directions to improve its mobility. The intensity of the force applied can vary, and it is adjusted based on the patient's comfort level. Joint mobilization is generally pain-free.

STM

Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM)

Soft Tissue Mobilization is a manual therapy technique that involves stretching and applying deep pressure to rigid muscle tissue. This helps to relax muscle tension and move fluids that are trapped in the tissues that cause pain and inflammation. This effective form of physical therapy is often used as an advanced knee pain treatment in Brielle, NJ for treating knee strains, knee sprains, knee pain, and more.

Graston

The Graston Technique

The Graston Technique involves the use of handheld instruments to identify and break up scar tissue through specialized massage. During a Graston Technique session, physical therapists use convex and concave tools for cross-friction massage, which involves rubbing or brushing against the grain of the scar tissue. This process re-introduces small amounts of trauma to the affected area. In some cases, this process temporarily causes inflammation, which can actually boost the amount and rate of blood flow in the knee. This process helps initiate and promote the healing process so you can get back to a normal life.

Massage

Soft Tissue Massage

Soft tissue massage is a less intense form of massage than it's deep-tissue relative. Instead of focusing on slow and firm strokes to reach the deep layers of muscles and tissues, this massage technique uses a variety of pressures, depths, and durations. Soft tissue massage is helpful in alleviating different types of knee aches, pains, and injuries. Soft tissue massages can also help reduce stress, improve circulation, and promote relaxation.

Advanced Mechanics and Technology:

The Future of Knee Pain Therapy

While knee pain is a common symptom that affects millions of Americans every year, no two cases of knee pain are ever exactly alike. Some types of knee injuries require non-traditional solutions. At New Jersey Sports Spine and Wellness, we offer a range of treatments that leverage mechanics and technology to help patients recover from injuries while treating inflammation and pain as well as resolve the root cause of the pain.

AlterAlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill is equipped with NASA Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, which is a precise air calibration system that uses the user's actual body weight to enhance rehabilitation and training. By utilizing a pressurized air chamber, the AlterG allows patients and athletes to move without any pain or restrictions.

This advanced knee pain treatment in Brielle, NJ uniformly reduces gravitational load and body weight up to 80% in precise 1% increments. The results can be incredible, with patients reporting benefits such as:

  • Restoring and building of knee strength
  • Restored range of motion in the knee
  • Better balance
  • Improved knee function
  • More

What Makes the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill So Effective?

The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill can monitor various metrics such as speed, gait pattern, stride length, and weight distribution. With real-time feedback and video monitoring, your rehabilitation team can promptly and accurately identify issues and pain points or monitor your progress throughout your knee pain rehabilitation journey.

One of the key benefits of this cutting-edge equipment is that it replicates natural walking and movement patterns without the artificial feel that hydrotherapy or harnesses create. This makes it an excellent choice for faster recovery after knee injuries or surgeries, as it allows for early mobilization while also preserving strength. Furthermore, it is ideal for sports recovery as athletes can use it for physical conditioning maintenance.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

Our advanced treatment modalities for knee pain include laser therapy, which harnesses the revolutionary power of light through photobiomodulation (PBM). LiteCureâ„¢ low-level laser therapy is available for acute and chronic types of knee pain and can be hugely beneficial when coupled with physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic care, and sports recovery care.

Understanding Photobiomodulation (PBM)

PBM is a medical treatment that harnesses the power of light to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. The photons from the light penetrate deep into the tissue and interact with mitochondria, which results in a boost in energy production. This interaction sets off a biological chain reaction that increases cellular metabolism. Utilizing low-level light therapy has been shown to:

  • Alleviate knee pain
  • Speed up tissue healing
  • Promote overall health and wellness
  • Expedite knee pain injury recovery

Exclusive Access to

Pain Management Professionals

At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, we know that every patient requires a personalized approach to chronic knee pain and condition management. Sometimes, our patients need access to pain management professionals, who can offer relief in conjunction with physical therapy and other solutions like low-level laser therapy.

Two of the most common services we offer for pain management includes acupuncture which can assist in avoiding knee replacement surgery.

Acupuncture is a common treatment for knee pain that involves inserting thin needles into specific points in your knee. This ancient Chinese medicine has gained popularity in Western culture due to its effectiveness in treating various conditions with minimal side effects.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system to release various biochemicals, including endorphins and other neurotransmitters. The release of these chemicals helps to reduce inflammation, decrease pain perception, and improve overall blood circulation.

Multiple studies have shown that acupuncture can be effective in treating knee pain caused by a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis and injuries related to physical activity like running. Acupuncture can also help reduce inflammation, improve muscle function, and decrease pain perception, making it a viable treatment on its own or as an addition to traditional treatment methods like physical therapy.

When undergoing acupuncture, a professional acupuncturist will insert thin needles into specific acupoints on the skin. These needles are left in place for roughly 20 to 30 minutes and may be gently stimulated for an enhanced effect. Patients might experience a slight tingle or warmth at the needle insertion site, but overall, acupuncture is considered a painless procedure.

Acupuncture has been a trusted and effective treatment option for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture as a legitimate form of healthcare, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has even funded research studies to explore its efficacy for a range of medical conditions. NEWARK – A Brielle man and former partner at a broker-dealer firm was charged Thursday after allegedly engaging in an insider trading scheme and exploiting his relationship with a close friend, profiting millions of dollars, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced today.

Christopher Matthaei, 44, was charged with one count of securities fraud conspiracy and one count of securities fraud, Sellinger said. He appeared Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court and was released on $250,000 unsecured bond.

Sellinger said that Matthaei illegally exploited his relationship with a close friend to gain access to confidential information about yet-to-be-announced mergers and acquisitions. He is alleged to have made trades on seven special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) that made him $3.4 million in illegal profits.

"SPACs may have been a hot trend on Wall Street, but the District of New Jersey will continue to be relentless in bringing inside traders to justice, no matter the market trends," said Sellinger.

Matthaei was a partner and senior salesperson at a Charlotte, North Carolina-based broker-dealer with offices in Red Bank, according to court documents. Between May 2020 and February 2021, he illegally traded on material, non-public information (MNPI) that he received from a friend who worked at a large Canadian asset management firm.

The information was related to companies that were engaged in confidential merger negotiations and shared information with the asset management firm as a potential investor in the deals, court documents said. Matthaei's friend received this information whenever a company was put on his firm's confidential restricted list, which meant the firm's employees weren't allowed to buy or sell the company's securities, either personally or via another person or third party.

Despite knowing this, Matthaei's friend shared the information with him, and Matthaei then purchased securities using his personal brokerage accounts, according to Sellinger. In June 2020 Matthaei paid for a private plane and extended trip with the co-conspirator and their families to a luxury resort on the island of St. Barth, where they continued engaging in the trading scheme.

The securities fraud count carries a maximum penalty of 20 year in prison and a $5 million fine, Sellinger said. The securities fraud conspiracy count carries a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross amount of gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greatest.

Sellinger said the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also filed a civil complaint against Matthaei today based on the same conduct.

A Brielle gymnast is among a group of people who could be selected to the USA national team this week.

Riley McCusker of Brielle is among nine women participating in the 2018 US Women’s World Team Selection Camp through Friday at EVO Athletics in Sarasota, Fla.

The 2018 World Championships, Oct. 25-Nov. 4 in Doha, Qatar, is the first opportunity for countries to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, according to a USA Gymnastics release.

The three-day camp includes a one-day competition Thursday that will be livestreamed on the USA Gymnastics YouTube Channel (see below). The US Women’s World Championships Team will be named after the conclusion of the morning training session on Friday.

The nine women participating in the selection camp are listed below.

Find out what's happening in Manasquan-Belmarwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Tom Forster, the women’s national high-performance training coordinator, is overseeing the selection camp. The members of the Athlete Selection Committee are: Forster; Terin Humphrey, athlete representative; and Tatiana Perskaia, International Elite Committee representative.

The top three countries in the team competition at the 2018 World Championships advance to the 2020 Olympic Games. In 2020, each Olympic team has four members, and countries participating in the team competition may also have up to two additional spots for athletes to compete as individuals in the all-around and/or individual events.

Under the new Olympic qualification system, any athlete who competes on a country’s team in 2018 that qualifies for the Games is not eligible to earn an individual nominative berth through the apparatus World Cup series.

U.S. national team members Jade Carey of Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Sunrays, and Trinity Thomas of York, Pennsylvania/Prestige, declined the invitation to the selection camp.

Carey, who is the defending vault and floor exercise World silver medalist, and her coach, Brian Carey, want to pursue qualifying as an individual through the apparatus World Cup series, which precludes her competing on the 2018 World Team.

“Jade and I will be cheering loudly for the U.S. World Team, and we send best wishes for a safe and successful competition,” said Carey. “Jade is honored to represent the United States and is looking forward to trying to make the team for the 2019 World Championships.”

“Both Jade and Trinity are important members of the U.S. National Team,” said Forster. “The new Olympic team and qualification process requires a new way of looking at the Olympic qualification process, and the four-person team does make it more difficult for an event specialist. We want to provide all of our athletes with the opportunity to achieve their dreams, and we support Jade’s and Brian’s goal of earning a nominal spot through the apparatus World Cup process.”

Based in Indianapolis, USA Gymnastics is the national governing body for gymnastics in the United States. The organization is committed to creating a culture that empowers and supports its athletes and focuses on its highest priority, the safety and well-being of the athletes. USA Gymnastics has already taken specific, concrete steps to strengthen its safe sport policies and procedures. The organization’s disciplines include men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, acrobatic gymnastics and gymnastics for all (formerly known as group gymnastics).

MONTVILLE, NJ – What started out as a cruise to the Bahamas had a rocky start as a ship that 13 Montville Township residents were travelling on experienced a 115-mph wind gust, according to ABC News, which made the ship tilt to 45° and sent passengers sprawling. Montville resident Brielle Cook was travelling with friends and family, including Deputy Mayor Frank Cooney, when the incident occurred Sunday night.

“I was in my room at the time of the incident,” Cook told TAPinto Montville. “We were feeling sea sick so we stayed in that night. Out of nowhere we heard glasses on the counter start sliding down and crashing to the floor. Before we knew it everything was flying across the room and when we tried to get up we couldn't get our balance, so we had to hold on to the bathroom door. We knew something wasn't right, but didn't know what was happening. Everyone thought they were going to die.”

Cook said that when the ship righted itself, she and her family ran into the hallway, finding many passengers screaming and panicking.

“They were announcing codes overhead that we weren't familiar with, which made us know something really wasn't right,” she said. “Eventually the captain came overhead and said we hit unexpected wind and everything was okay.”

Cook’s mother offered to help, and was told that those with medical experience should go to the medical center, Cook said.

“When I arrived, there were three nurses and doctors caring for an influx of patients, so I helped to triage them and assist the doctors with procedures,” she said. Cook is an ICU nurse and Montville fire fighter. She helped treat about 100 patients with broken bones and cuts, she said.

When the ship arrived in Port Canaveral, Florida, there were ambulances and paramedics waiting to take eight injured passengers to the hospital, Cook said. The patients were treated and released, according to ABC News. The ship continued on its course and the Montville group is enjoying the rest of their vacation, although Cooney told TAPinto Montville that they have some cuts from broken glass and the situation was “scary as hell.”
