Physical Therapy:

Physical therapists cater to patients of various ages and capabilities, ranging from young athletes to senior citizens, in order to help them surpass physical limitations and improve their standard of living with advanced knee pain treatment in Asbury Park, NJ.
At NJ Sports Spine and Wellness, our physical therapy program was founded on a patient-centric philosophy, where physical therapists work closely with patients to get a deep understanding of their goals, preferences, and capabilities. In doing so, they can create a tailor-made treatment strategy to address their unique knee pain with the goal of avoiding a knee replacement. Treatment may involve exercises that are therapeutic in nature and can include:
This unique knee pain solution involves physical therapists using skilled manual therapy techniques to help improve your joint range of motion while simultaneously reducing your knee pain.
During joint mobilization, a physical therapist applies targeted pressures or forces to a joint in specific directions to improve its mobility. The intensity of the force applied can vary, and it is adjusted based on the patient's comfort level. Joint mobilization is generally pain-free.
Advanced Mechanics and Technology:
While knee pain is a common symptom that affects millions of Americans every year, no two cases of knee pain are ever exactly alike. Some types of knee injuries require non-traditional solutions. At New Jersey Sports Spine and Wellness, we offer a range of treatments that leverage mechanics and technology to help patients recover from injuries while treating inflammation and pain as well as resolve the root cause of the pain.
The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill is equipped with NASA Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, which is a precise air calibration system that uses the user's actual body weight to enhance rehabilitation and training. By utilizing a pressurized air chamber, the AlterG allows patients and athletes to move without any pain or restrictions.
This advanced knee pain treatment in Asbury Park, NJ uniformly reduces gravitational load and body weight up to 80% in precise 1% increments. The results can be incredible, with patients reporting benefits such as:
The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill can monitor various metrics such as speed, gait pattern, stride length, and weight distribution. With real-time feedback and video monitoring, your rehabilitation team can promptly and accurately identify issues and pain points or monitor your progress throughout your knee pain rehabilitation journey.
One of the key benefits of this cutting-edge equipment is that it replicates natural walking and movement patterns without the artificial feel that hydrotherapy or harnesses create. This makes it an excellent choice for faster recovery after knee injuries or surgeries, as it allows for early mobilization while also preserving strength. Furthermore, it is ideal for sports recovery as athletes can use it for physical conditioning maintenance.
Our advanced treatment modalities for knee pain include laser therapy, which harnesses the revolutionary power of light through photobiomodulation (PBM). LiteCure⢠low-level laser therapy is available for acute and chronic types of knee pain and can be hugely beneficial when coupled with physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic care, and sports recovery care.
PBM is a medical treatment that harnesses the power of light to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. The photons from the light penetrate deep into the tissue and interact with mitochondria, which results in a boost in energy production. This interaction sets off a biological chain reaction that increases cellular metabolism. Utilizing low-level light therapy has been shown to:

At NJ Sports Spine & Wellness, we know that every patient requires a personalized approach to chronic knee pain and condition management. Sometimes, our patients need access to pain management professionals, who can offer relief in conjunction with physical therapy and other solutions like low-level laser therapy.
Two of the most common services we offer for pain management includes acupuncture which can assist in avoiding knee replacement surgery.
Acupuncture is a common treatment for knee pain that involves inserting thin needles into specific points in your knee. This ancient Chinese medicine has gained popularity in Western culture due to its effectiveness in treating various conditions with minimal side effects.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system to release various biochemicals, including endorphins and other neurotransmitters. The release of these chemicals helps to reduce inflammation, decrease pain perception, and improve overall blood circulation.
Multiple studies have shown that acupuncture can be effective in treating knee pain caused by a variety of conditions, including osteoarthritis and injuries related to physical activity like running. Acupuncture can also help reduce inflammation, improve muscle function, and decrease pain perception, making it a viable treatment on its own or as an addition to traditional treatment methods like physical therapy.
When undergoing acupuncture, a professional acupuncturist will insert thin needles into specific acupoints on the skin. These needles are left in place for roughly 20 to 30 minutes and may be gently stimulated for an enhanced effect. Patients might experience a slight tingle or warmth at the needle insertion site, but overall, acupuncture is considered a painless procedure.
Acupuncture has been a trusted and effective treatment option for thousands of years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture as a legitimate form of healthcare, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has even funded research studies to explore its efficacy for a range of medical conditions. The Light of Day Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary in January with a series of concerts all across New Jersey and New York City, culminating on January 18 with Bob’s Birthday Bash at the Count Basie Center’s Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. The bill for that show includes John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem, Brian Baker of Bad Religion, Pete Steinkopf of the Bouncing Souls, Dramarama, Willie Nile, and Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers.
Other events will take place at Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, McLoone’s Supper Club, Watermark, and Berkeley Ocean Front Hotel. There will also be concerts at Outpost In The Burbs in Montclair, New Jersey, and City Winery in New York City. Check out the official Light of Day website for more info.
Light of Day was born in November 2000 when a series of local musicians gathered at the Stone Pony to raise money for Bob Benjamin, a former Billboard writer and rock manager who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1996. Unannounced guest Bruce Springsteen showed up at the end of the evening to jam with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers. In the years that followed, Light of Day grew exponentially into a series of concerts all across the globe.
Springsteen was never officially on the bill, but he appeared at most of the shows in the early years when his schedule permitted. He hasn’t performed at one since the 20th-anniversary celebration in 2020.
“For many years, a lot of the buzz surrounding the event was because of Bruce,” Light of Day Executive Director and Co-Founder Tony Pallagrosi told Rolling Stone in 2020. “And Bruce has been so gracious to us and such a godsend. Because of him, we have worldwide presence. But when I became executive director, I really wanted people to know why we are there. It’s about Parkinson’s and ALS [Lou Gehrig’s Disease] and PSP [Progressive Supranuclear Palsy] and finding a cure and helping people on a daily basis. I wanted to pound that message home more and more every year and I think I have.”
Over the years, Southside Johnny Lyon, Darlene Love, Michael J. Fox, Gary U.S. Bonds, Max Weinberg, LaBamba’s Big Band, Jesse Malin, Jakob Dylan, Ed Kowalczyk, Lucinda Williams, and Suzanne Vega have all performed at Light of Day. Along the way, it raised approximately $6.5 million.

There haven't been many "pings" if any from OCEARCH-tagged great white sharks off New Jersey's coast this year until this week, when a 12-footer nicknamed Scot popped up just inshore of the continental shelf.
A satellite picked up Scot's tracking tag on its dorsal fin at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, revealing the apex predator's location was just northwest of the Hudson Canyon. The Hudson, a submarine canyon and prolific fishing ground for tuna, begins about 80 miles east of the Manasquan Inlet.
Scot is an impressive adult male shark that weighed 1,644 pounds when it was tagged by researchers Sept. 8, 2021, having been found it was swimming near Ironbound Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. OCEARCH researchers nicknamed him Scot after the people of Nova Scotia.
Since being tagged, Scot has swam 16,326 miles, a journey that has taken him from the Florida Keys to the Gulf of St. Lawrence on its seasonal migrations up and down the Atlantic Seaboard.

OCEARCH is a nonprofit research group that has been studying great white sharks' behavior for over a decade off the eastern seaboard of the U.S. and Canada. Its Western North Atlantic White Shark Study is one of the most comprehensive studies of great white sharks in the world and includes a full health assessment of each shark, microbiological studies, movement, temperature and depth studies through the use of three different tags.
The largest of the great white sharks OCEARCH has tagged is Nukumi, a female that was 17 feet, 2 inches and 3,541 pounds when it was tagged. Nukumi has yet to ping off the coast of New Jersey.
The study has shown that the great white sharks winter in the waters off the southeastern coast of the U.S. and migrate north to waters off New England and Canada in the summer.

ALLENHURST, NJ — Federal law enforcement is now looking for those responsible for butchering the carcass of a dolphin that washed up Wednesday on the beach in Allenhurst.
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said it was called last Wednesday to pick up the partial remains of a dolphin on the Allen Avenue beach.
The Stranding Center called it "a very disturbing call."
"When our Stranding Coordinator arrived, he found a Common dolphin that appeared to have been butchered, " the group posted Friday on Facebook. "The animal’s flesh had been completely removed with clean cuts from a sharp instrument, leaving only the head, dorsal fin and flukes. The animal’s organs, except for the heart and lungs, had been removed."
Law enforcement officers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have taken over the case, said Sheila Dean, executive director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
NOAA declined to answer when Patch asked if there are any cameras in that area, or if NOAA is interviewing anyone of interest.
"It is long-standing NOAA practice not to comment on open investigations," said a NOAA spokeswoman Monday. "Anyone who may have information concerning this incident can call the NOAA Fisheries' Enforcement Hotline at 1-800-853-1964."
One person commented on Facebook that someone may have filleted the dolphin to use its meat as fishing bait.
Dean maintains Monday that it was an "evil person" who did this.
"My only hope is that the dolphin was already dead and did not suffer," she told Patch. "This sort of event is very disturbing to our staff. This job can make us cry every day. We just have to 'suck it up' and try to find out what happened to every animal, dead or alive."
She said it clearly was the work of a person, as the cuts to the dolphin's body were methodical and done the precision. The dolphin was "not decayed at all and the heart and lungs were still intact. I have never have seen this in my 50 years of strandings," she wrote.
On Tuesday night, the night before the butchered dolphin was discovered, a live Common dolphin was reported struggling in the surf one block away in Allenhurst.
"Witnesses reported that the dolphin was able to make it over the sandbar and swam back out. It is unknown if this was the same animal," the Marine Mammal Stranding Center wrote.
The public is asked to call Marine Mammal Stranding Center's 24-hour hotline if they have any information: (609) 266-0538.
